THEO BECKETT's request, though offered as a choice, appeared quite the opposite to BARNABY FINCH. To deny the underboss would have drawn unwanted suspicion, so here he was, leaning back into an uncomfortable armchair within the sterile office of marcus kotov. It was a stark place, without even a medical meme poster on the wall to lighten the mood.[break][break]

"Of course, Dr. Kotov. I couldn't say no when I heard it was you." Though perhaps the psychiatrist didn't remember their initial meeting; he'd been masked, after all. [break][break]

To stoke his memory, Barnaby offered his hand, thumb and index fingers splayed to show off the faint scar left there by that rabid bitch freya morningstar. Though it was light, the ragged indents of teeth formed a definitive bitemark. [break][break]

[break][break]"it looks like it healed well enough." within a medical tent in the thick of wartime, there's no guarantee that an injury will heal as well as it could've in a less hectic and better supplied environment — but it doesn't look bad, not at all. "and she didn't end up giving you rabies, i see."[break][break] there's a hint of mirth to the observation, but it passes as congratulations are given. he studies his body language for a moment, wondering what might be concealed beneath his poise, and then begins. [break][break] "when you encountered your patron, did you experience anything unusual?" as he speaks, he thinks of mint frost, terrorized by a gauntlet of illusions. "hallucinations? voices?"

"I remember darkness the most. But no voices..." Not directly from MOLTRES, anyway. marcus kotov, however, didn't need to know the sorts of shades that had tested him in that infernal place. It was too personal. Not something for any ROCKET to know.[break][break]

"And..." A hand went to rub at his throat — a seemingly unconscious gesture. "It was painful— when it happened. I thought Moltres was killing me rather than choosing me."
